Coach Debbie Hallas had to turn to her youngsters to fulfil the away fixture at Turnford due to players being tied up playing a double header in The Netball Superleague.
The game started with a fast pace and the game was going goal for goal. However with some increased pressure from the Oldham defence the away team managed to capitalise and gain a lead. Shooters Alice Travis and Amy Clinton worked well together and worked the ball close to the post. At the end of the first quarter Oldham had a marginal lead 12-10.

At quarter time Taylor Cullen and Rachael Taylor swapped roles as coach Debbie Hallas was hoping for some controlled experience in the middle of the court. It was in the middle of the quarter that Oldham seemed to hit the accelerator button and scored seven goals in a row. Maria McAndrew was having a tough time at wing attack but her speed and power ensured she was playing the ball around well in attack. At half time Oldham had increased their lead to 25-17.
At half time Hallas looked to her bench with Amy Neild, Susie Armstrong and Rachel Henry being introduced to the court. It did not take long for the changes to settle and some great pressure throughout the court forced errors from Turnford. Amy Neild found her eye well and was confident in feeding U17 team mate Amy Clinton under the post. Oldham really piled on the pressure in the third quarter and stretched out the lead to 44-28.
Going into the last quarter McAndrew replaced Henry at Centre. Turnford did not want to let up in the last 15 minutes and some fine shooting resulted in Turnford winning the last quarter. However this was not enough to take the game and Oldham secured a great solid away win 52-39.
Coach Debbie Hallas: “We ground out an excellent result today, the youngster stepped up when required and didn’t disappoint. I thought experienced defender Gemma McDermott was solid in defence and led from the back while Amy Clinton was the player of the match.”
