Oldham 66 New Cambell 36

26/1/2014

After a break for international games the defending Premier One champions were raring to go against Essex based side New Cambell. The home side were without a few players as they were on 'rest' after representing their country in the previous week. This was going to be a tough game as earlier in the season Oldham came out with a draw down in Essex.

Coach Debbie Hallas demanded a quick start as this is something that Oldham have struggled to achieve throughout the season but New Cambell had other ideas. The first quarter was scrappy and no team got into any real flow and the ball seemed slow through the court. Oldham managed a few converted turnovers and led the first quarter 12-9.

At quarter time Hallas was quick to make changes bringing Maria McAndrew to wing attack shifting Rachel Henry to centre and Sara Hale came on at goal keeper. The changes worked straight away and Oldham quickly upped their gear and put three goals on the board without an answer from Cambell. The ball flew through the centre court and McAndrew was finding space well. At times the Oldham attack were unstoppable and managed to score 24 goals in the quarter with 100% shooting stats from Turner and Travis. At half time the score was 36-22.

Oldham 59 vs Hucclecote 34

12/1/2014

Despite their usual slow start Oldham’s premier league side chalked up another win away at Hucclecote.

The Cheltenham based side got the better start taking an early 6-4 lead, before Oldham finally warmed up and started to show glimpses of what they are capable of.

2 intercepts in row from WD Gabby Marshall and GA Kathryn Turner turned the deficit into a level game, the only time that Oldham would allow Hucclecote to get near them. The defence of Sara Hale and Kerry Almond were starting to assert themselves and force errors from the home side and they were backed up by Marshall and centre Rachel Henry who were turning over ball easily, Oldham led at the break 15-8.

Coach Debbie Hallas opted to replace Marshall with Rachael Taylor for the second period and the change didn't affect Oldham in the slightest, who went 10 goals ahead within a few minutes of the restart, after good work from Turner and Krista Enziano in the shooting circle. Hucclecote were starting to wither and couldn't live with the pace of Oldham, who extended their lead to 32-16 at halftime.
