Comfortable win for Oldham

Oldham Netball Club’s premier league team ended the season with a comfortable 64-50 win over New Campbell.

Coach Debbie Hallas had a young side once again, with only two of the 10 players over the age of 20. But the court time and experience that the young players had received in the season paid off.

Oldham started slow, taking time to get used to the experienced heads of the away side's attacks. Susie Armstrong was doing what she could against the tall shooter, and, after a minutes, began to work out her opponent, helped by some strong defensive pressure. Oldham still went in at the break two down at 13-15.

Oldham Netball Club’s National Premier League squad made the long journey South to play Viper 10 Blades in their last away fixture of the season. The already depleted squad suffered another blow when influential mid courter, Maria McAndrew, was ruled out through injury.

The first quarter started slowly with errors from both teams resulting in Blades taking an early advantage before Oldham settled into their stride with some good attacking netball. Amy Clinton and Kathryn Turner were combining well and making the most of good through court play from Iona Darroch and Amy Neild. Oldham’s defence were working hard with some good play from Taylor Cullen backing up the efforts of Abby Tyrrell and Susie Armstrong and by the end of Q1 Oldham had pulled out to a 17 11 lead.
