STARTING 7 GS HANNAH FLETCHER GA MIA ROBINSON WA OLIVIA GILBERTSON C ALICIA SCHOLES WD AMIRA MIRZA GD VANESSA LUAMBA GK ELEYNA FLITCROFT SUBS: OLIVIA WOODCOCK GEORGINA EGAN ROSETTE LUAMBA LAURA MALLINDER | The u14s wanted to make their last home regional game their best and one to remember, to show that they are a major contender in this competition. Oldham started off the first quarter well but so did bury and for the first 5 minutes the scoreline was close with Oldham just in front with 2 or 3 goals, some brilliant interceptions in the circle by Eleyna Flitcroft followed by some quick and accurate balls into the circle by Alicia and Olivia saw Oldham pull away from Bury leaving the 1st quarter 16-9. |
With an eager bench Pam Hazleton decided to make a few changes, bringing Olivia woodcock on at WD and Laura Mallider on at GD moving Vanessa Luamba to GK. The second quarter went off to a flying start with Oldham dominating all over court - brilliant intercepts by Laura and Olivia on bury’s centres saw them unable to score on a lot of occasions the goals began to come fast and furious with some amazing runs and entrances into the circle by Mia Robinson. A couple of sloppy passes by us and held balls meant we didn't score as many in this quarter but with a mega tight defence neither did bury, the second quarter finished 29-13.
No changes were made in the third quarter as Oldham were really starting to settle down and get into their flow and they started the third quarter strong. Bury also came out fighting and were determine to do better this quarter and their was some great contests for the ball throughout court from both sides. Mia and Hannah retained their composure in the circle in the second half and were on fire and the goals were relentless, the score by the end of the third quarter was 47- 21.
In the last quarter changes were made to the defence and Eleyna Flitcroft came back on court replacing Laura Mallinder at GD. With a rock tight defence bury struggled in the last quarter to score at all and even when they did try to feed a ball in Vanessa and Eleyna picked them up with ease and took no prisoners when it came to defending the circle. With the defence on fire and the fast flow of balls down from court into the circle the scoreline just grew bigger and bigger. Mia and Hannah scored the most in this quarter, scoring 20 between them both. Some brilliant netball was played throughout the game and the shooting stats in this game were the best we have ever seen from the U14s in this competition leaving the whole squad excited and confident for the next stage.
