GS Alice Travis GA Amy Neild WA Bryony Rhodes C Gabrielle Marshall WD Rachel Taylor GD Gemma McDermott GK Amber Hazelton Bench : Helen Housby, Kerry Almond, Ebbie Danson-Chappell, Charlotte Spence | Oldham welcomed some experienced players into their squad again for this game, due to Oldham having an under 16’s fixture earlier in the day, it was an opportunity for some of the North West Premier League players to play alongside Alice Travis, Helen Housby and Kerry Almond. It was also great to have Bryony Rhodes in the squad for the first time and Bryony had been training well therefore started the game at wing attack for Oldham. |
Oldham had a fantastic start, great feeds into the circle for Travis and Neild, good shooting and great turnover by Gabrielle Marshall. Oldham won the first quarter 20 goals to 5
A few changes going into the second quarter with Housby coming on at GS and Charlotte Spence coming on at WD. With a few balls thrown off the backline by the centre court initially, Oldham settled back down and played some fast, sharp netball. The defence were working well together and were getting touches and interceptions, especially Marshall. It was great for Neil and Rhodes to play with Housby in this quarter and to adapt their game quickly whilst on court. Half time score 36-15
Going in to the third quarter Travis came back on at GS, Housby to GA, Almond on at GK and Ebbie Danson-Chappell replacing Rhodes at WA. Shooting from the two prem players was consistent. The defence were picking balls up again in this quarter and the team worked well to get the ball through to the shooters who were putting the ball in the net. Oldham at times got a bit complacent with the feeds, but soon recovered this and changed their play to prevent as many errors. Almond was a rock at the back and Gemma McDermott was working well with the Superleague player. Marshall again in this quarter was getting interceptions all over the court, reading the ball very well and bringing to the shooters time and time again. End of the third quarter 57-20
Changes in the final quarter Hazelton came on at GD, Rachel Taylor at C, Spence at WD and Neild at GA Going into the final quarter of the game, Oldham wanted to get at least 70 goals in this game and really pushed themselves to get to this. At times Oldham got slightly complacent with some feeds into the circle, but overall the team played some fantastic netball and jelled well throughout the game. Man of the Match for Oldham was Gabrielle Marshall because of her fantastic defensive performance today. Final score 74-24
“What a fantastic performance by the whole squad. It was great to have experienced players involved in our squad this week as it is great experience for the NW prem squad. They really adapted well and changed their game where required. We have some superb youth coming through Oldham and they really improving each week. Gabrielle Marshall was fantastic today, her defensive play was great. As a centre to be consistent over the three quarters she played is a tough ask and Gabs did that today. We have a few weeks break now, which allows us time to work on a few aspects of our play at training”.
