A depleted Oldham premier league squad hosted bottom of the table Turnford on Sunday and came away with a convincing 65-43 win to keep them on top by goal difference.
Oldham started the slower of the two teams, but quickly regained the rhythm that they'd been building over the last few games. Some excellent full court defence and shooting from Kathryn Turner and Krista Enziano allowed Oldham to take hold of the game and head into the break 17-12 ahead.
The second quarter saw some of the best netball that Oldham have produced so far this season. The defensive unit of Abby Tyrrell, Emma Dovey and Kerry Almond were taking turnovers and forcing the Turnford attack into making errors, which allowed Oldham to push ahead, with the continued sharp shooting and excellent through court work from Maria McAndrew and Amelia Hall. An incredible run of seven unanswered goals in the middle of the quarter saw Oldham take a 36-18 lead into half time.

Susie Armstrong and Lucy Stevenson replaced Almond and Enziano respectively for the third and Oldham took a while to settle down into the new shooting circle. A few loose balls here and there across the court gave Turnford an in and they pulled a few goals back on the home side until Oldham found their flow again and extended their lead once more with some slick play. 48-29.
Almond and Enziano reentered the court for the final quarter with Turner and Hall taking a well earned rest. The final quarter was all about maintaining the lead and Oldham didn't disappoint, pulling further away from the away side to end the game with a comfortable win and some good performances across the board.
Enziano was rightly named player of the match for her excellent statistics and composure under the post. Coach Debbie Hallas was understandably happy with her team. "With some enforced changes I was pleased with our form once we got going, however, we still need to find consistency over the whole quarter.”
“Krista was outstanding today scoring 40 from 42 attempts, and gave the Turnford defence a lot to think about.”
