The newly formed Oldham Red Kites competed in their first tournament this weekend and what better way to start than at the Greater Manchester HI5 festival. The team who are mostly only 8 years were nervous but also very excited to get their first game underway against a very strong Denton team.
The Red Kites soon got into a flow and displayed some great passing and footwork skills which they have been working on. In no time Oldham had built a 3-0 lead and the flow of the ball down the court was very controlled. With all players rotating in each position this may have caused some disruption but the goals carried on flowing and the Red Kites came out victorious 7-2.
Next up for the Red Kites were YWCA Bury. Throughout the game Oldham dominated possession and the defence were like a brick wall with nothing being able to get through. The girls used their height, speed and control and again replicated their first game winning 7-2.
With only 3 teams in the competition the Red Kites had to play each team again. It had been a long day and the team and worked really hard but this did not stop the flow and consistency of the team. They were victorious again beating both teams comfortably 6-3 and 8-1. The girls worked very hard as a team and showed real improvement throughout the day.
Every player worked so hard all day and deserved the winners medal at the end, a great first tournament for the Oldham Red Kites.
