Oldham v Tameside in the North West Under 16 Regional Final
Venue – the Thunderdome – Wright Robinson College Manchester
Oldham started the match with the first centre which was immediately lost and Tameside took advantage and scored immediately.
Tameside dominated the first quarter as the Oldham attack failed to penetrate their own shooting circles making unforced errors and Tameside took an early lead ending the first quarter 13-9 up
Oldham Head coach Pam Hazelton made changes bringing on Rhianna Egan to GA and Victoria Austin to WA .
The game evened out. Rhianna Egan opening up space into the shooting circle and Victoria Austin’s accurate passing into GS Amy Clinton helped Oldham hold their own.
Although quarter 2 went goal for goal Tameside still held there 4 goal lead at half time.
More changes for Oldham. Amy Neild to GA and quarter 3 got off into a fierce battle between the two rival clubs. Oldham started to edge forward, Amy Neild making a definite impact and Oldham’s defenders Jess Dale, Issy McGlashen and Abby Tyrell started to put the pressure on and force Tameside to make errors.
Oldham clawed back two goals and the end of quarter time Tameside led by 37 goals to Oldhams 35.
Oldham made yet another change from their twelve strong bench introducing Ebbie Danson Chappell at WD.
Oldham centre and they scored immediately bringing the deficit to only 1 goal. A missed shot by Tameside rebounded by Abby Tyrell gave Oldham the chance to equalise and 1 minute into last quarter Oldham were back in the game.
Oldham’s confidence grew and they began to up their game. Centre Becca Hope , WA Victoria Austin and GA Amy Neild played the ball with accuracy and speed firing the ball into 6 ft 1 GS Amy Clinton
Oldham went ahead and were 48. – 44 up with 4 mins to go.
Gk Jess Dale took two spectacular intercepts off the Tameside shooter and Oldham finished off with a stunning victory of 51 goals to 46.
GS Amy Clinton scored a stunning 16 / 16 in the final quarter.
Oldham U16s will now represent the North West in the National finals at Northumbria on 11th May.
