Oldham Sparrowhawks first ever tournament got off to a successful start, with them winning all 5 group games convincingly to earn them a place in the semi-finals against Trafford. Oldham got off to a bad start in the first half though losing 4-2 at half time, but the fighting spirit of the squad allowed them to pull it back to 4-4, making the game go into extra time. With Olivia Maders and Imogen Raftery in defence getting the ball back from the centre pass, this gave the Oldham centre and girl of the game Ellie Brennan opportunity to get the ball in to the shooters Lily Mundy and Hannah Diamond, who kept their nerve converting the turn over. It was Oldham’s centre pass, with 30 seconds remaining in the game, and the excellent work from Ellie, Lily and Hannah helped secure another goal and earning them a well deserved place in the final. In the final Oldham were against Dominoes, who they had previously met in the group stages and beat 4-0, but Oldham didn’t take this for granted. Oldham got off to a good start with defensive duo Chiara Eckersly and Ketrece Landell turning the ball over on numerous occasions allowing captain Helena Robinson to get the ball down to the shooters Ellie Brennan and Ellie Mayo. At half time Lily Mundy and Hannah Diamond formed a solid defence, restricting Dominoes to only scoring one goal in the whole game; giving Helena Robinson and Imogen Raftery opportunity to further extend the lead to 5-1 giving Oldham a convincing victory!!
