NW Premier League
With only three points separating Oldham and Tameside in the league, the game was on for a highly anticipated local derby. Top of the league Oldham, started slowly with Tameside scoring off their first centre and taking advantage of a missed shot from the home side. Already two goals up after 30 seconds, Tameside capitalised on this further increased their lead to 5-0. Oldham took some time to find their form but soon went through the gears scoring five unanswered goals to level the game. The home side continued to up their momentum, and finished the first quarter in the lead with 14 goals to Tameside's 10.
Coach Suzy Ashworth made an early change with Isobel Hallam coming on at GA for Oldham. However, Tameside once again, were first onto the scoreboard. The game went goal for goal for a good part of the quarter, neither teams letting up. Until Oldham’s Victoria Austin suffered a nasty fall and was unable to continue on the court, Amy Neild stepped in to the WA position for the remainder of the quarter and Sarah Brennan returned to GA. Oldham achieved some key turnovers and maintained their lead, the score at the end of the second quarter was 25-20 to Oldham
The third quarter saw Kim Meadows introduced at GA and Rachel Fitzsimmons at GK. Oldham settled into this quarter quickly and showed a strong team performance with all players sticking to their task. Oldham built momentum once again steadily increasing their lead. But they still struggled to utilise all their turnovers. The shooting from both shooters, however, was superb. Both shooters scored 100% of their shots in the third quarter with Shepherd having 14 attempts. End of the third quarter Oldham were in the lead 41-32.
