Bury arriving having similar squad numbers, Oldham knew they needed to be on fine form for the whole game. Oldham started slow in the first quarter and allowed Bury to get on the scoreboard first, but Oldham did come back and score the next 3 goals in a row. Oldham didn’t capitalise on the many turnovers the defence were getting and was forcing the ball in to their shooters, which resulted in the score being level through most of the first quarter. Oldham managed to pull 4 goals back in the final minute of the game though to finish the first quarter just ahead with 12 goals to Bury’s 9. |

From the first whistle, Oldham played with confidence and determination and the attack opened up with some good use of the straight line ball. The shooters were working well together, but did not take advantage by scoring. However, Oldham started to build their lead and at one stage in the quarter scored five unanswered goals. The defence still applied the pressure to Bury’s attack in this quarter achieving 10 turnovers. At half time, Oldham were leading 28-17.
Oldham coaches Suzy Ashworth and Pam Hazelton kept faith with the same line-up going into the third quarter. Danson-Chappell was proving to be a force to be reckoned with again in this game, controlling and dominating the game with her speed and feeds into the circle. This was a low scoring quarter for both teams, which showed that the defence were doing their job on both sides. Oldham continued to keep the lead and won the quarter by four goals taking the score to 38-23.
Final quarter of this local derby game, Zoe Mallinder came on at wing defence, Isobel Hallam to goal attack and Amelia Hall to wing attack. All players who came on settled into the game really well at the beginning. Oldham scored the first three goals in the quarter, but some complacency crept in and the Oldham bench made a quick change. Joely Ferris made an appearance at wing defence half way through the quarter with Mallinder moving back to goal defence. “It was a great team performance today, players came on and dominated from the start. Ebbie, again was a game changer and controlled the Centre position. There are a few things we need to go away on work on, but overall a confident win”.
