After a disappointing draw away at New Cambell the previous week Oldham were feeling positive to be back on home soil in a brand new kit to face Norfolk based Thoroughbreds.

Oldham were keen to put right the slow starts that they had been tarred with in the opening games of the season and put right they did.
Oldham's speed in attack was unstoppable and Maria McAndrew was linking well and finding Krista Enziano under the post with ease. Throughbreds struggled to find a rhythm in attack and Oldham's strong defensive line made it difficult for the ball to reach the circle. Towards the end of the quarter goals started to flow for both teams and the quarter finished with a high scoring 23-11.

Coach Debbie Hallas opted to keep the same seven on court for the 2nd quarter and did not want to disrupt the quick flow of ball through the court. Laura Malcolm was having an exceptional game at WD making sure that ball was being turned over before reaching the goal circle. Throughbreds seemed to up the game and tried to slow down the quick give and go play between Henry McAndrew and Turner in attack. It was a lower scoring quarter and at half time Oldham still were comfortably in the lead 39-19.

At half time there was a reshuffle in the pack for Oldham with Beth Cobden, and Alice Travis making their first appearances for the National Premier League this season after being on International duties, Helen Housby and Georgie Webster also took to the court. In previous weeks Oldham have taken time to settle with changes but not this week. All areas of the court were keen to keep applying pressure and reaped the rewards by converting turnovers. Throughbreds seemed to tire and this is when Oldham seemed to push forward further. Malcolm and McAndrew linked up well and found the shooters Housby and Travis in good shooting positions. Whilst at the other end Kerry Almond and Webster were keeping a tall goal shooter away from the ball. The third quarter finished with Oldham extending their lead further to 63-23.

Hallas chose to make more changes going into the final quarter with Kathryn Turner and Rachel Henry returning to court. The home team were keen to keep the pressure piled on and win every quarter comfortably. Webster and Cobden were winning ball in defence but the goals weren't coming as frequent as they had been in other quarters. Oldham did win the quarter and the game finished 76-32.

Coach Debbie Hallas said: “I was so much happier with this performance, we hit the ground running which is something we have struggled with this season. Every player applied themselves and kept the scoring momentum throughout the game.”

“I couldn’t have asked for more today, Laura Malcolm stepped up today and was the player of the match for me. Hopefully we will take this momentum into next week’s game against Academy from Middlesex, and probably our toughest game of the season so far.”
