Last season saw some very big significant changes to England Netballs (EN) performance section and following the review of this, Greater Manchester County Programme for 2014/2015 is outlined below.
We will continue to run one under 16 County Academy and one Under 14 Satellite Academy. The Under 14 will run for a minimum of 15 sessions and a maximum of 30 sessions and the Under 16 will run for a maximum of 30 weeks. Each age group will have a specific night to train for the coming season and will train on a weekly basis term time only (where possible due to differences in school holidays).
Under 14’s will train on a Tuesday evening and Under 16 will train on a Wednesday evening. Both age groups will train 7-9pm at Wright Robinson Sports College. All sessions will cost £5 per session.
Commitment is extremely important so anyone who cannot commit to this schedule is asked not to trial. The initial training dates are below.
All athletes are free to apply to trial for one county via the NW web site www.netballnorthwest.org.uk during the month of May. After the 31st May no applications will be accepted. Athletes should seek advice from coaches and teachers on whether they feel they are of the required standard to apply and consider very carefully if you honestly believe they have the ability and dedication to go far – please use CAPTIVE guidelines until further documents are released from EN.
This programme is very intense, there is homework and a lot of it is about continuing to train in their own time. They have to be able to time manage; education is so important at this age that they cannot afford to let studies drop. They also have to fit in club and school commitments and other sports and of course have a life – family time, friends etc etc. We are looking for the top 20 athletes in the county per age group.
Trials will be high intensity as directed by EN. They will be over 2 days (numbers dependent) and after the first day some will be asked not to attend the second day.
TRIALS
Saturday 13th September will be a 3 hour game session i.e. they will just play matches. They will have to wait for results so expect that to be an hour after session finishes.
• Under 14 9.30-12.30pm
• Under 16 2-5pm
Sunday 14th September will be a 3 hour session of fitness and Strength & Conditioning testing, skills and game play – Girls will not have to wait for a decision, these will be emailed out.
• Under 14 9.30-12.30pm
• Under 16 2-5pm
England Netball have also still lifted the barrier on which County you can trial for with the theory behind this being about logistics of travelling i.e. attend your closest county. However, what still remains is once a girl has applied to one County for a trial they cannot apply to another and this will be monitored. Therefore if any of your athletes have applied for another County they must not apply for Greater Manchester.
ALL CURRENT ACADEMY ATHLETES MUST STILL APPLY THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS.
Now please spread the word to all your players, coaches, parents, fellow teachers etc. etc. etc. as the deadline to apply for trials for 2014/2015 is 31st May 2014 so please advise everyone to go to netballnorthwest.org.uk to apply.
